On the green design concept of product packaging

[Abstract] this paper discusses the green product design concept from the aspects of product modeling, product structure and product materials, and puts forward the guidelines of simple design, regenerative design and removable design in green product design

key words: product design; Green design; Green design is an international design trend in the late 1980s. It focuses on the ecological balance between man and nature. Environmental benefits are fully considered in every decision-making in the design process to reduce the damage to the environment. Green design reflects people's reflection on the environmental and ecological damage caused by modern science and technology culture, and also reflects the return of designers' professional ethics and social heart. 1 green product design concept and criteria

the basic idea of green product design is: people-oriented, ensure function, incorporate environmental factors and pollution prevention measures into product design at the design stage, take the ecological environment as the goal and starting point of product design, and strive to minimize the impact of product production and use on the environment

2 green product modeling design

green product design does not pay special attention to aesthetic performance and narrow design language in product modeling. It emphasizes to minimize unnecessary material consumption and attach importance to the regeneration and disassembly of materials

the green product modeling design criterion is simple design. Minimalism is that the design language does not pay too much attention to the narrow aesthetic form expression, but simplifies the product modeling to the extreme, emphasizes reducing unnecessary material consumption, and embodies the meaning of "small is beautiful" and "less is more" in the design. Minimalism can be summarized into three basic principles:

1) extreme simplification of form. Such as using basic shapes and single primary colors, paying attention to objectivity without deliberately pursuing style

2) use the least basic ingredients and elements in design creation

3) simplify the design content and remove unnecessary things that interfere with the main body

its core is the "appropriateness" of product modeling design. Specifically, it is to consider the rationality of design function, emphasize the perfection and refinement of composition, and consider other factors in a secondary position, find a balance between refinement and function, and deduce the composition and function at the same time

3 in terms of green product structure design, products are material entities with origin and destination. Products come from the environment, but also belong to the environment. Today's products will be tomorrow's waste. Therefore, when designing the structure of a product, designers must seriously consider whether a product can be reused at the end of its life cycle, that is, whether it can be safely disposed of in multiple life cycles

making the best use of everything is not only the requirement of human beings, but also the requirement of natural resources. For example, the "Longmu Zhuanggu Granule" produced by Wuhan Jianmin Pharmaceutical Factory contains large and small plastic cups in the package. In addition to taking medicine, it can also be used as baby cups, student cups, and other items. The glass contained in the product package can be used as a general tea cup. Clothes bags in garment factories can be used to hold other items. Computers have brought great convenience to our work and life, but the life cycle of computers is extremely short. According to statistics, when three computers are sold every day, two old computers are scrapped, which means that the speed of recycling computers is as fast as that of manufacturing computers. Then, when designing a computer, we must fully consider the reuse of components to save resources. Buildings are urban products, but with the development of cities, a large number of old buildings are facing the fate of demolition, wasting a lot of natural resources. Therefore, regeneration design must be advocated to transform old buildings into modern ones. As a means of mass transportation, the production scale and quantity of cars are increasing. At the same time, the urban garbage caused by scrapped cars is greatly endangering nature and mankind. Automobile designers should focus on recycling design and recycling devices with broad prospects for utilization, so as to protect natural resources and human environment

the design of green product structure should adopt the design criteria for disassembly, which means that in product design, we should not only pay attention to the assembly of parts, but also consider the disassembly of products. At present, it has been applied in automobiles, computers, copiers and other products

the design principle for disassembly is:

1) reduce the workload of disassembly. Specify the parts that should be disassembled, with integrated functions and easy access

2) predict product structure. Avoid the combination of materials that affect each other and the contamination of parts

3) convenient disassembly. It is easy to access the discharge outlet, select appropriate fastening methods, reduce the number of fixed elements, simplify the movement mode of disassembly operation, provide easy to grasp the surface of the disassembled parts, and ensure the safety of disassembly

4) easy to separate. Avoid the auxiliary operation of adding other materials to facilitate classification; Different materials should be easy to identify

5) reduce the diversity of parts. Parts shall be standardized

4 green product material design

materials are the material basis of all scientific and technological applications. Today, the research of advanced materials is inseparable from the development and application of information technology, energy, transportation and high-tech products. Without optical cables, there would be no modern communication industry; Without the support of high temperature resistant materials, the aerospace industry will be unsustainable; Without silicon crystal material, there would be no CPU. Green materials refer to materials and finished materials that are low energy consumption, low noise, non-toxic and harmless to the environment in the process of preparation and production

1) use recycled and recycled materials, green recycled materials, biodegradable plastics and renewable materials

2) use clean and environment-friendly energy, wind energy and solar energy

3) develop and use green materials. Green materials refer to materials that are conducive to environmental protection. the design criterion of green product materials is regeneration oriented design, which is the most effective use of recycled parts and materials in new products. There are two main aspects of regeneration oriented design:

reuse of parts. reuse of materials. Limit the number of types of materials. The reduction of material types can increase the use of the same kind of materials, which not only facilitates the sorting out of more pure materials in the recycling process, but also reduces the purchase price of materials; Consider the compatibility of materials. The materials of certain parts in a product can be regenerated together when the parts cannot be disassembled because of mutual compatibility; Use raw materials in the introduction of professional and technical talents. When choosing the materials of product parts, we should choose recycled materials to make a virtuous cycle of natural resources

5 Conclusion

green product design is a new design method, which has been widely recognized and valued in developed industrial countries. Relevant research has been carried out in Japan and South Korea in Asia, which has led to attention to the impact on the natural environment at all stages of the product life cycle. The research on green product design in China has just started, and there is still a long way to go. Academia and business circles should strengthen international cooperation.
